Pope

Pope Benedict XVI went to Africa and reiteratred the church's stance against on condom use. In Africa. No condoms. Seriously. From CNN, "More than 22 million people in sub-Saharan Africa are infected with HIV, according to a 2008 UNAIDS/WHO report. Nine out of 10 children with HIV in the world live in the region, which has 11.4 million orphans because of AIDS, the report said, and 1.5 million people there died of the disease in 2007."

This guy is an idiot.

This is just one more rusty nail in the coffin that holds my little Catholic girl's heart shut away tight. As a "raised Catholic" (which is nearly recognized as an official and growing sect of American religion), I feel nothing but shame for the way the Catholic Church conducts itself.

This latest travesty is an abomination and total distortion of all that is righteous. Just when I think I've seen it all, I am stunned by this latest papal act.

Today I am an island and belong to a church of one.

Jeff considers himself a "recovering Catholic" too. He was so burned by the church that he shuns the idea of putting our son through any church until he is old enough to make the decision of which faith to follow. My dad was raised Buddhist and my mom Methodist, and since both were educators there was a lot of learning about all different faiths. My friend is going to lend me a book (don't know the title) about raising a spiritual child without religion. I am psyched to read it.
